Tradition holds that Australian coins bear an effigy of the reigning Monarch on their obverse. Since the introduction of decimal currency in 1966, Australia’s circulating and collectible coins have featured five different effigies of Queen Elizabeth II as the reigning Monarch. With the succession of King Charles III, Australia’s coins will for the first time bear the effigy of a new sovereign.
